Rotary - Benefits of Membership

The Opportunity to Serve

Rotary is a service club with the motto Service Above Self. Its business is mankind. Its product is service. This is locked into the DNA of the Rotary Club of Glen Waverley as much as the Rotary Clubs of Gloucester, Guatemala City or Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

Rotary clubs exist to provide community service and that is what it is all about. This is, perhaps, the best reason for becoming a Rotarian: the chance to do something for somebody else and to sense the self-fulfilment that comes with that. Rotary is richly rewarding.

To Take Part in the Community

Membership in a Rotary club makes one a better community citizen. The average Rotary club consists of the most active citizens of any community.

Do be aware though. in the Rotary world 'community' can range from your own doorstep in the Eastern Melbourne suburbs and to far off places: we don't just mean the La Trobe Valley! The Rotary Club of Glen Waverley has sponsored and supported projects in Bali, Cambodia and Fiji, among others. We have a special interest in supporting the youth of the area and have many projects which further this aim.

The Absence of an Official Creed

Rotary has no secret handshake, no secret policy, no official creed, no secret meeting or rituals. It is an open society of men and women who simply believe in helping others.

Anyone researching Rotary can find out as much about the organisation as someone who has been a member for a decade.

A great place to start your journey is at

Leadership Development

Rotary is an organisation of leaders and successful people. Taking part in club projects and committes helps to develop skills such as team work, public speaking, project planning, report writing and use of information technology .

Perhaps the greatest skill to learn or to further is that of leadership: - the art and science of how to motivate, influence, and lead others.

Taking part in Rotary projects also gives members scope to further vital skills in MS Office and similar important computer applications.

Nice People

Rotarians above all are nice people - the nicest people on the face of the earth.

They are business owners, managers, academics. professionals who follow the policy that it is nice to be important but it is important to be nice.
