Food Packs for Homeless and Rough Sleepers
Food Packs for Homeless and Rough Sleepers
Community Police officer Sara is delivering more food packs to the vulnerable before Christmas.
Supplied by the Rotary Club of Glen Waverley Sara is seen here picking the packs up from Rotarian Sue 2022 saw the continuation of our Food Packs for Homeless and Rough Sleepers.
This program has been running with Monash Council since 2019. We purchase and pack the food packs with appropriate food for a rough sleeper for 1 day.
This helps the council workers connect with the homeless and helps them co-ordinate assistance. The number of homeless people in Glen Waverley as remained constant over the years.
So far, we have delivered 373 packs to the council to distribute.
In August, the new Police District Command, has encouraged us to continue with our Vulnerable Food Packs. Vulnerable people who have their names with SEV (South East Volunteers), which is a Monash Council program for people living on their own. They receive phone calls once a week to check on the individual. Have a chat and assess if they need help or assistance. We have been providing the food packs as a way for the Police to relate to people when doing home checks. Individuals have been surprised and overjoyed to receive a food pack when the Police come calling.
So far 235 packs have been delivered by the Community Police Officer in the district of Monash.
This is another worthwhile Rotary Project, certainly at Christmas to put a smile on peoples faces.
